Why small businesses deserve enterprise-grade software

I'm certified in ServiceNow and saw what big platforms do well. Why small businesses need the same, and how Medal Social brings AI and updates to them.

If you run a clinic, a salon or a small agency, you've probably watched AI show up everywhere except in the tools you use every day. Your software looks much the same as the day you signed up, and keeping it safe is one more job on your list.

The platforms big companies use don't work like that. I know, because I spent years inside them. This post is about what I saw there, and how we bring the same thing to businesses your size at Medal Social.

What I saw inside the big platforms

I've spent years working with and studying platforms like ServiceNow, Salesforce and HubSpot. I'm certified in ServiceNow as a system administrator, an application developer and an implementation specialist, and before Medal Social I worked as a consultant with more than 35 large companies (my LinkedIn).

Those platforms are very good at staying current. ServiceNow ships two big releases a year, and every one brings new features to customers who upgrade (ServiceNow release notes).

They take safety seriously too. A large customer has teams whose whole job is keeping data protected and access under control.

And they have a community. Customers ask questions, share fixes and push for new features in places like the ServiceNow Community and the Salesforce Trailblazer Community. When so many companies use the same product, one good idea can end up helping all of them.

Working with those customers, I kept thinking the same thing. A small business would get so much out of this.

Built for companies with an IT team

The catch is that all of it assumes an IT team.

Take AI. When ServiceNow added its AI assistant to its IT product, customers needed a higher license level, a recent version of the platform and a list of add-ons switched on before they could use it (ServiceNow FAQ, ServiceNow docs). A big company has people to plan that. They run an upgrade project and get it done.

A clinic with six people doesn't. The owner is the IT team, and nobody has time to read those release notes. So the new features never arrive, and the software stays as it was.

Building software works differently now

When I started out, software got better in big steps. A team worked for months, then shipped a large upgrade, and customers planned around it.

That has changed. At Medal Social we ship small updates almost every day. From 4 October to 1 November 2026, we released 109 times, on 26 of 29 days. Every change is reviewed and has to pass checks before it reaches you.

AI has changed how we build, too. AI coding tools write code and suggest changes, following written rules we keep for how Medal Social is built. Our team reviews every change before it ships. That's how a small team like ours can ship this often.

The biggest shift is who gets the result. Medal Social is one shared platform, so every improvement reaches every customer. You don't need an upgrade project to get it.

What that means for your business

Your tools get better every week. We write up each update in plain words on our changelog. There have been 35 so far, and four of them shipped between 12 October and 1 November 2026.

New AI tools reach you in weeks. On 1 November we added Pilot, our AI assistant, to the post editor. You can ask it to rewrite a post or edit a photo, like brightening a shot or cropping it for Instagram, and your original stays saved. There was nothing for you to install.

Safety is handled for you. There are no passwords on Medal Social. You sign in with Google, a passkey or a one-time code.

Small things built for businesses like yours show up too. In October, we made it possible for Norwegian businesses to fill in their company details straight from the Brønnøysund Register.

And you get the community effect. When a customer tells us something is missing and we build it, every customer gets it at the same time.

Our promise

AI is moving fast. For a small business, the hard part is getting it into the tools you already use, safely.

That's our promise at Medal Social. We keep up with what's coming in AI and bring the useful parts into your workspace. Every change goes through the same review, and updates go out every week.

If you want to see what that looks like today, read the latest changelog or look through everything in Medal Social.

FAQ

What does enterprise-grade software mean for a small business?

Software that stays up to date, keeps your data safe and gets better from what other customers ask for. Big companies have had that for years. Small businesses mostly haven't.

Do I have to install updates or plan upgrades?

No. Medal Social is one shared platform, so every customer gets updates automatically. You can read what changed on our changelog.

How does Medal Social keep up with AI?

We follow what's new and bring the useful parts into the tools you already use. Pilot, our AI assistant, is one example. It now works inside the post editor.

Do I need an IT person to use Medal Social?

No. We look after hosting, updates and safety. You sign up and set it up yourself.
